VOLUNTEER
AT LOS AMIGOS HUB
Who are we?
We are group of multicultural and interdisciplinary researchers studying and protecting the biodiversity of the Peruvian lowland Amazon rainforest.
Our team is part of Climate Corridors, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit focus on protecting the climate corridors connecting the landscapes along elevational gradients that facilitate mass biodiversity migration.
By understanding and protecting the climate corridors, we will:
Safeguard countless threatened species.
Enhance long-term habitat integrity at scale.
Build climate change resilience for people and nature.
About Los Amigos
Los Amigos is a hub for scientific research, education, and conservation in the Amazon rainforest. It provides facilities and support for researchers from around the world to conduct studies on tropical ecology, biodiversity, and conservation biology.
Los Amigos hub is located in southeastern Peru, in the Madre de Dios region, near the border with Brazil and Bolivia. It lies within the buffer zone of Manu National Park, an UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its high biodiversity, and the Madre de Dios Territorial Reserve. Los Amigos also contributes to the biological corridor connecting Manu National Park and Tambopata National Reserve.
Los Amigos hub is formed by Los Amigos Biological Station, a 453-ha private reserve established in 2000, and Los Amigos Conservation Concession, a 146,000-ha government owned concession established in 2001. Both protected areas are managed by our partner Conservación Amazónica (ACCA).
The mixture of Terra Firme forests, floodplains, riverside forests, palm swamps dominated by Maurita flexuosa, and bamboo patches in short proximity makes Los Amigos hub a highly biodiverse area with always something new to offer!
